President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono received letters of credence from new ambassadors of the Philippines and Sudan in a simple ceremony held at the Merdeka Palace on Wednesday in Jakarta.

Prior to coming to Jakarta, Querol worked as a regional director at the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) with the Philippines National Police.

Querol, who has a master's degree in public administration, joined the police service in 1974. During his more than 30 years with the police, Querol received more than half a dozen awards for his meritorious services to the nation.

The 57-year old ambassador is married to Marieta S. Querol and they have five children.

Sudan has appointed one of its senior most diplomats as its ambassador to Indonesia -- Ambassador Sulieman Mohamed Mustafa, who is an adept career diplomat.

"Our new ambassador is not only an experienced career-diplomat but also a scholar," a Sudanese Embassy spokesperson said.

"And he has a doctorate from the University of Sorbonne in Paris."

Mustafa speaks fluent Arabic, English and French, joined the foreign service in 1977 and has worked in Djibouti, USA, France and UK.

In 2001, Mustafa was appointed Sudan's ambassador to the Central African Republic. Prior to coming to Jakarta, he was working as director at the minister of foreign affairs' office in Khartoum.

The credentials ceremony was attended by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo Adi Sucipto, Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Foreign Ministry's Secretary General Imron Cotan and Presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal.
