Thai stars aim to wow Eriksson

Thailand internationals Suree Sukha and Kiatprawut Saiwaeo have vowed to show Manchester City manager Sven Goran Eriksson they are capable of starring in the Premiership.

City's Thai owner Thaksin Shinawatra invited Suree, Kiatprawut and teenage striker Teerasil Daengda to England for trials and the trio, who all played in this month's Asia Cup, are confident of earning permanent contracts.

The players were recommeneded by Football Association of Thailand president Worawi Makudi after Shinawatra asked which of his compatriots were worth looking at.

Centre-back Kiatprawut, 21, said: "It's an honour. I'm ready for the trial. I may need time to adjust to the English game and the weather but I think there should not be a problem."

Suree, a 24-year-old defender, still finds it hard to believe he has a chance to make a name for himself in the Premiership.

"At first, I thought it was not true," he told AFP. "I could get a chance to
play in the English Premier League.

"I will try my best and hopefully the three of us will play together in the Premier League."

Meanwhile, Eriksson promised to carry on spending after signing Bulgarian international winger Martin Petrov for 4.7 million pounds from Atletico Madrid.

Petrov, 28, is Eriksson's fourth purchase since he took charge at Eastlands but he won't be the last.

The Swede has been given substantial transfer funds by Shinawatra as he overhauls City's squad and is lining up moves for Bayern Munich's Roque Santa Cruz and Racing Santander's Nikola Zigic.

Eriksson said: "I don't think we are finished signing, there will be more new faces coming in different positions, whether they are English or not I can't say.

"I think that the new owner has shown that he means serious business when he says that he wants to build a strong team, which is not fighting at the bottom of the table but at the other end." (*)
