An Indonesian scout contingent arrived at Heathrow International Airport, London, for participation in the 21st World Scout Jamboree taking place at Hylands Park, Chelmford, Essex, the United Kingdom, from July 27 to August 7, 2007.
The 352-member scout contingent was headed by Rear Marshal Eris Herryanto, Iman Santosa of the Indonesian embassy in London, told ANTARA News, Friday.
The 21st World Scout Jamboree is being hosted by the Scout Association of the United Kingdom. It brings together 40,000 Scouts, Venturers, leaders, and staff from 155 countries for 12 days. They will share adventure, international friendship, personal growth, and development.
To be officially opened on Saturday (July 28), the jamboree theme is "One World, One Promise."
This year is the centennial year of the founding of the Scouting movement. Sir Robert Baden-Powell, who founded the Scouting program, also pioneered the very first jamboree at Olympia in London in 1920.
The jamboree program will combine proven elements of previous world Scout jamborees, such as the Global Development Village and the World Village.
Indonesia will take part in the World Village by featuring "Indonesian Day" which will be highlighted with Indonesian traditional dances and songs, on July 29, 2007.
Before leaving for London, the Indonesian Scout Movement`s delegation members were received by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the Palace last Sunday (July 22).
When receiving the scout delegation members to the jamboree, the President called on members of the country`s Scout Movement to raise the red and white national flag at the 21st International Jamboree in Hyland Park, Britain, on July 27 to August 8, to demonstrate the country`s identity.
"You are all national envoys and therefore are expected to show the nation`s good image and reputation to the international community," he said .
On the occasion, the chief of the national quarter, Dr Azrul Azwar, reported to the President on the occasion that the delegation consisted of scouts from across the country`s provinces including two disabled members and six tsunami and earthquake survivors.
He said the Indonesian scouts would carry a theme of "Unity in Diversity" in the event to show to the world the Indonesian people`s respect to unity despite their diversity. (*)
